Carragher insists Mohamed Salah WILL stay at Liverpool

Jamie Carragher has weighed in on Mohamed Salah's contract conundrum at Liverpool, as the Egyptian's deal is set to expire next summer.

After the Reds' 5-0 disposal of West Ham on Sunday, Salah revealed that negotiations are not progressing at this time and insisted that he is solely focused on Liverpool's on-field aims this season.

'No, we are far away from that,' he said, when asked if there are any positive updates on the situation.

'I don't want to put something in the media and people start saying stuff, but nothing really [has] moved on.

'But for now I'm focused on the team and hopefully we win the Premier League.'

Despite these comments, Carragher insisted that he is not worried about the future of Salah or Virgil van DIjk, who is also out of a contract in summer 2025.

'I'm at the stage now with Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk [where] I'm not too bothered [with] what they say about the situation.

'I do expect it to get sorted with those two players. Maybe I'm being too optimistic.

'But I can't see a situation where Mo Salah is not starting at Liverpool next season.'

Earlier this month, Van Dijk was offered a fresh deal, but there was reportedly no breakthrough in negotiations with the 33-year-old.

Salah sent the Reds fanbase into a frenzy last month when he claimed he had not been contacted over a new contract.

Since then, Salah has remained tentative with his words regarding the situation, recently refusing to divulge the current state of negotiations when asked on Boxing Day.

'I want to tell [the fans] Merry Christmas and Happy New Year,' Salah told Amazon Prime on Thursday. 'And I'll see them in the next game here.'
