David Luiz, the former Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain defender now playing for Champions League new boys Pafos, is facing legal trouble after allegations of threatening messages from Francisca Karollainy Barbosa.

Brazilian authorities have issued a restraining order against Luiz following claims that he sent threatening messages via Instagram, leaving Barbosa fearing for her life.

Shocking threats detailed in court filings

Based on evidence presented by Barbosa, who had direct conversations with the former Brazil international, Ceará’s court ruled that a restraining order was warranted. One of the messages reportedly sent by Luiz read: “I can simply make you disappear. I have someone who knows where you are right now. Nothing will ever happen to me, so delete it.”

Another message included a warning directed at Barbosa: “You know I have money and power, so don’t act naive. It would be sad if your child had to face the consequences of your actions.”

Background of the relationship

Barbosa and Luiz reportedly had an extramarital affair while Luiz, who won the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012, was playing for Brazilian club Fortaleza, where he saw limited game time. He then quickly moved to Pafos in Cyprus, where he has yet to make his debut due to physical issues.

According to Brazilian media outlet Globoesporte, neither David Luiz nor his close associates have commented publicly on the situation.
