The final minutes of the Champions League tie between Atletico Madrid and Manchester City were marked by an enormous brawl that lasted four minutes and ended with Felipe being sent off, and Stefan Savic and Nathan Ake cautioned.
It all started on the touchline, with Felipe's tackle on Phil Foden culminating in an off-the-ball kick from the Brazilian. Off the pitch, Foden rolled back into play in order to waste time. Savic spotted him, sprinted over and dragged him back off with his own hands. And then all hell broke loose.
A huge brawl broke out involving both teams. All of the players on both sides were on the pitch and in the dugouts got into a shoving match as the battle raged.
The referee waited for the players to separate before issuing cards. A red to Felipe for the kick and yellow for Savic, who pulled the hair of Jack Grealish, and Ake.
After the whistle, the chaos continued. City players kept throwing themselves to the ground in the final minutes, to which Diego Simeone responded by ironically applauding Pep Guardiola's bench, setting the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano alight.
The referee ordered 10 minutes of added time, but it was no good to Atletico, who complained to the referee about the stoppages. Simeone jumped on the pitch to protest with the game ongoing, while in the tunnel the brawl continued.
Savic, Mario Hermoso and Berta clashed with the City players and UEFA asked the police to intervene.
Footages posted on the Internet later have also shown a chaotic session in the tunnel is broadcasted on the French channel RMC 1.
