Who will win the Premier League?
2021/22, on paper, looks set to see perhaps the most open Premier League title race in recent memory.
For the last several years it has generally just been Manchester City and or Liverpool who have dominated the English top-flight.
However, summer business on the part of both Manchester United and Chelsea now suggests that all four teams could be in with a shot at silverware this time around.
Chelsea’s biggest issue last term was a lack of goals. However, they have now signed one of the world’s best current no.9s in Romelu Lukaku, as well as bringing in Saul Niguez on loan to provide cover in midfield.
Man United, meanwhile, signed both Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, addressing two of United’s weakest positions in the process.
They also, of course, brought Cristiano Ronaldo back to the club, who has already netted four in three for the Red Devils.
‘Supercomputer’ predicts Premier League table
Despite this, neither club have been predicted to win the league title this time around by what the Mirror describes as a ‘supercomputer’.
As their report explains, CIES Football Observatory Weekly has used a statistical model to predict how Europe’s top five leagues could finish this season.
The model combines factors like player experience, transfer fees invested into squads and the performance of each team over the last year.
And, as per the Mirror, the model has Manchester City winning the 2021/22 league title. Man United are then in 2nd place, with Liverpool 3rd and Chelsea somewhat surprisingly down in 4th.
Tottenham and Everton, meanwhile take up the Europa League spots, Leicester City are in the Europa Conference League place whilst Newcastle, Watford and Norwich City are relegated.
