Chelsea and Man City 'to battle for £60m Bayern star Lewandowski this summer'

Chelsea and Manchester City are preparing a bidding war this summer over the signature of star Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski.

The two Premier League sides, who meet in the Champions League final later this month, would have to part with at least £60million to secure Lewandowski's services, according to ESPN.

Lewandowski is one of the best strikers ever to play in the Bundesliga, with 272 goals across his career with Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.

At 33, the Pole has seemed to get even better with age, notching up an astonishing 36 goals in just 26 league appearances so far this season.

Lewandowski was considered a shoo-in for the 2020 Ballon d'Or before it was cancelled because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

His contract with Bayern expires in 2023, though a lucrative move to the Premier League could be tempting and ESPN reports that he is yet to decide on his future.

Both Chelsea and City have made no secret of their respective desires to sign a top-class centre-forward this summer.

The clubs are each in the hunt for Dortmund's Erling Haaland, though with any deal being touted at a price of £150m-plus, a move for Lewandowski would be considerably cheaper.

While Timo Werner is yet to find his feet at Stamford Bridge, Thomas Tuchel is also looking at bringing recent Serie A winner and former Chelsea man Romelu Lukaku back to the club.

Pep Guardiola at City is looking to solve the conundrum of losing Sergio Aguero at the end of the season, with Harry Kane also strongly linked with a move to the Etihad.
