Chelsea fans use Twitter to vent frustrations at Tuchel after Southampton defeat

Chelsea fans have expressed anger towards manager Thomas Tuchel after the Blues lost 2-1 to Southampton on Tuesday.

Raheem Sterling's opening goal was cancelled out by Romeo Lavia before Adam Armstrong's first goal in nine months put the Saints ahead, and the forward's strike was enough to secure all three points as Chelsea struggled to create chances whilst chasing the game.

Supporters took to Twitter to criticise Tuchel, who was down before and after the game regarding injuries to his squad and their ability to compete.

One fan criticised Tuchel's comments after the defeat, posting: 'Tuchel needs to stop moaning and sort the mess out, looks like he’s losing the players fast.'

Chelsea have spent well over £150million this transfer window and don't look like slowing down any time soon, with Wesley Fofana set to be announced imminently and the club going in for RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol.

The Blues are however yet to sign a striker after the departure of Romelu Lukaku, and many fans have pointed the blame towards the German.

'Chelsea are going backwards, no cohesion no pattern, transfer window, still no number 9, Tuchel is in trouble!!' posted one supporter.

'Another abysmal pathetic lackluster display, Tuchel full of ridiculous excuses, it’s not just this season but since the new year, home form shocking.'

'Sign a damn striker!' added another.

Several others questioned his future at the club, with some even calling for his job to come into question.

One supported posted: 'Tuchel has until the World Cup break to fix this. Blank checkbook all summer and chooses not to sign a new midfielder or some competent forwards.

'Let's go sign another defender while we’re at it. He’s not immune to criticism and his job should be under pressure at the very least.'

'What Chelsea need in this transfer window is a new manager. Tuchel is destroying the squad - forwards come and go - he doesn't improve any of them,' said another.

'If [Roman] Abramovich was still the owner of Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel will not finish the season at this football club,' added a third.

Chelsea have picked up seven points from their opening five games of the season, and sit eighth in the table with teams around them having games in hand.

They're five points behind leaders Arsenal, who have played a game less, and are already in a fight if they want to challenge for the Premier League title this season.

Some supporters have backed him to turn the situation around, but acknowledged something needs to change.

'Tuchel needs to fix things up before things get messy,' said one user.

Another said: 'I still think Tuchel can turn this around but he needs to switch up and be ruthless. I think he’ll have time though because [Todd] Boehly is obviously planning on him being here long-term.'

Chelsea face West Ham in a London derby on Saturday.
