Chelsea loanee Ampadu backed to seize his Bundesliga opportunity

Banished to the Bundesliga, Ethan Ampadu has become the forgotten man amid the youthful revolution at Stamford Bridge.

Ampadu's fellow Wales international Rabbi Matondo - a former Man City under-23 who now plays for Schalke - believes the youngster has nothing to worry about.

'When I first came I wasn't playing a lot, I was coming off the bench most of the time. I know when he gets his opportunity he'll take it because he's that kind of lad,' winger Matondo said.

'It's just a matter of time, he just has to be patient and keep working hard in training. When he gets the opportunity at Wales camps, he can show Leipzig what he's capable of.'

Ampadu lifted the Europa League for Chelsea last season but played in just 12 first-team matches all season. With Kurt Zouma, Fikayo Tomori, Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger all under the age of 27, the Welshman could be a long way from nailing-down a place in Frank Lampard's side.

Ampadu is set for Wales' meetings with Azerbaijan and Hungary during this international break. He started both of Ryan Giggs' side's fixtures in last months internationals, though the Man United legend has called his lack of game time 'concerning.'
