Chelsea loanee Malo Gusto returns to first-team training with Lyon

France U21 international Malo Gusto (19) has resumed collective training with his Olympique Lyonnais teammates. In January, Les Gones and Chelsea struck an agreement over a €40m move for the promising right-back. However, a loan was included in the move, allowing Lyon to keep Gusto until the end of the season.

Laurent Blanc’s side are yet to really benefit from the loan as much as they would have wanted with Gusto unavailable for several months with a hip injury. The prized Lyon youth product had spent weeks at Chelsea’s medical wing in order to return to match fitness and get acquainted with his future teammates.

Even though young Lyon right-back Saël Kumbedi (18) has largely held his own, the return of Gusto is good news for Lyon. Les Gones will need to be at full strength for the final eight games of the Ligue 1 season. Lyon are 7th in the standings and have only a 5-point deficit on the fifth-placed side, the last qualifying spot for European competition next season. Les Gones have won two Ligue 1 games on the bounce and will travel to Toulouse on Friday for Ligue 1 gameweek 31.
