Chelsea starlet Gallagher 'set to sign for Swansea on loan' after being recalled

Chelsea are close to agreeing a loan deal with Swansea City for midfield starlet Conor Gallagher following his recall from Charlton Athletic.

The 19-year-old has been catching the eye with his energetic displays in the middle of the park for the Addicks, scoring six goals in 26 games, leading to comparison with his Chelsea boss Frank Lampard.

The Blues manager opted to recall his young talent, who has been training with the first team, but now he looks likely to be shipped out to the Championship again with promotion contenders Swansea.

The Welsh outfit are knocking on the door of the play-off spots after making a strong start to the league season under Steve Cooper.

Gallagher is well known to Cooper having featured in his young England team that won the Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

Following his recall, the teenager was linked with a host of sides, including Burnley, Norwich and West Brom, but Chelsea are keen for him to link up with Cooper.

Having proved himself as a dangerous weapon in Charlton's arsenal as they bid to battle the drop to League One, manager Lee Bowyer couldn't hide his frustration after the star was taken back to Stamford Bridge.

'I'm disappointed. I didn't see this coming if I'm honest which makes it harder to take,' Charlton manager Lee Bowyer told the Addicks' website.

'He's been a credit and a pleasure to work with. He's come in and put his body on the line every single day. He's scored us goals and helped us win games.

'I would like to thank Chelsea for loaning us Conor. The most important thing now is that Conor goes on and progresses in his career and we've got to move on and try to find a replacement.'
