Chelsea will 'rival Man City for Jamal Musiala'

Chelsea are set to rival Manchester City in their quest to bring Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala to the Premier League, according to reports.

Musiala is one of the hottest young prospects in European football after breaking onto the scene at Bayern Munich when he became the club's youngest-ever Bundesliga debutant aged 17years and 115 days old.

The 21-year-old originally rose through the ranks of Chelsea's academy before moving to Germany five-years ago and going on to become one of Bayern's top talents.

Chelsea are now keen to bring Musiala back to Stamford Bridge, with Man City also interested in recruiting the former England youth star, as reported by the Guardian.

Musiala spent eight years in Chelsea's academy after joining from Southampton and is now a key part of Bayern's set-up and the Germany national team.

The youngster's current contract at Bayern runs until 2026 and his departure would likely cost any perceived suitors a huge fee given his importance to the Bundesliga club.

Premier League sides could look to take advantage of Bayern's current circumstances with team manager Thomas Tuchel departing at the end of the season and the club's 11 year run of winning the Bundesliga title being brought to an end by Bayer Leverkusen.

Musiala is likely to play a key part in the club's ongoing Champions League campaign, with Bayern through to the competition's semi-final after eliminating Arsenal midweek.

City are believed to be leading the race for his signature as manager Pep Guardiola looks to reinforce his squad with further summer reinforcements.

City have previously invested in young talents and are expected to do so again given the previous exits of wide players Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer who opted to join Chelsea last year.

Musiala has scored 12 goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for Bayern this season and will play a starring role in Germany's upcoming European Championship campaign.

He previously was a regular in England's youth ranks before choosing to represent Germany at international level after making two appearances for the Three Lions' Under-21 team.
