Christian Eriksen was given a standing ovation when he was introduced to Brentford supporters ahead of their match with Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The 29-year-old has been out of action since he collapsed to the ground with a heart problem during Denmark's opening game of last summer's European Championships against Finland.
He was able to make a full recovery from the incident, but it still appeared doubtful that he would ever be seen on a football pitch again, and he agreed to terminate his contract with Inter Milan back in December.
However, he has been given the all-clear to return, and he was signed as a free agent by Brentford on deadline day last month.
With the Bees playing their first home game since his arrival on Saturday, he walked onto the pitch prior to kick-off and received a very warm welcome from the fans.
Eriksen strolled around the ground waving at supporters, in what was clearly an emotional moment for the Danish international, just eight months on from his collapse in his homeland.
He was not named in Brentford's squad against Palace, but Thomas Frank will want him available quickly as his side try to avoid being dragged into a relegation battle.
After a bright start to the campaign, the west London club have struggled to pick up points in recent months, leaving them looking over their shoulders at the likes of Newcastle and Norwich, who have started to string some positive results together.
Frank will hope that Eriksen's experience at the highest level, having played for Tottenham and Inter, could prove vital in helping Brentford stay clear of the bottom three between now and the end of the season.
