OFFICIAL: Carvajal will miss Real Madrid's first La Liga match due to suspension

Dani Carvajal arrived in Vigo to learn that he won't be able to play in Real Madrid's LaLiga Santander opener against Celta Vigo this weekend.

Carrying a suspension over from last season, the Spaniard will be sidelined for the clash.

With his ban coming from an accumulation of yellow cards, there was hope that the slate would be wiped for 2019/20 due to new rules, but that won't be implemented until the end of this campaign and the beginning of 2020/21.

The RFEF's Competition Committee has taken the decision not to permit the six players who were facing a suspension to play in the opening matchday of the LaLiga Santander season.

Six players had suspensions pending due to picking up a minimum of five yellow cards in the 2018/19 season. The fact that these players picked up the decisive card in the final match of last season meant that their ban would carry over into the new campaign.

However, the Supreme Sports Council (CSD) stated that these bans would be lifted, something which the Competition Committee doesn't agree with. The individuals in question were Dani Parejo, Jose Gaya, Diego Llorente, Aritz Elustondo, Dani Carvajal and Nemanja Maksimovic.
