The game was halted after an official suddenly fell to the ground amid sweltering temperatures in Kansas City.

The Copa América match between Peru and Canada left a moment of tension when one of the linesmen fainted in the final moments of the first half. The Canadian team was looking for its last attempt before the break when the cameras focused on the member of the refereeing team lying on the field in a state of unconsciousness.

Canadian goalkeeper Maxime Crépeau was the first to notice the linesman’s plight and was straight over to assist the official. He called over members of the pitchside medical staff and the required attention was soon administered.

The members of the medical staff from both teams rushed to the lineman and he soon regained consciousness, although still very dazed. He had to leave on a stretcher with a wide applause from the fans who were watching the match at Children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City, where the thermometer read 32 degrees.

The affected linesman occupied the side where the sun was shining fully and that could have been the reason for the fainting. During the clash it was possible to see how the background defended by Canada in the first half was practically empty due to the sun.
