Inter Miami CF confirmed that they are interested in signing the one-time World Cup winner with Argentina and are preparing a historic offer.
David Beckham changed how the world looked at Major League Soccer when he decided to leave Europe’s top tier to join the LA Galaxy on a 5-year, $32.5 million contract. The Manchester United legend joined the MLS side in the summer of 2007 and was heavily criticized for playing in a league that was only ten years old at the time.
Beckham’s deal was the most lucrative deal offered to a player in the league’s history and no one thought something similar would happen again. Now that Lionel Messi will most likely become a free agent during the summer transfer window, Inter Miami, the team owned by Beckham, is preparing a historic offer to lure the one-time World Cup winner to play in MLS.
Messi needs a lucrative deal
The Argentine international has been linked with a move to Inter Miami for months now and it was even reported that conversations were established prior to the World Cup. Both sides have been going back and forth about the possibility of Messi leaving Europe’s top tier to continue his career in Major League Soccer, but no deal has been reached.
Bringing Messi to Major League Soccer will need Inter Miami to come up with a creative and lucrative deal. Even the league’s commissioner, Don Garber, has stated that they will work alongside the David Bekcham-owned team to facilitate the negotiations and reach all of Messi’s demands.
“You’re dealing with perhaps the most special player in the history of the game. So when there are rumors of him connected to Miami, that’s great,” said Don Garber to The Athletic on Lionel Messi’s potential move to Major League Soccer.
