Courtois: I'm one of the best even though Spanish press want to kill me

The Real Madrid and Belgium goalkeeper says he considers himself one of the best in the world despite howler against Russia in Euro 2020 qualifier.

Thibaut Courtois says he considers himself one of the best players in the world despite committing a howler against Russia that let them equalise through Denis Cheryshev even though Belgium ran out eventual 3-1 winners. He is not in his best form at Madrid either since signing with the club in the summer.

"I got a nudge from the Russian attacker," he said after the game. "I didn't have the strength to clear it. I made a bit of a mistake. That's the life of a goalkeeper. After that, I calmed down and played my game."

The goalkeeper was dropped by Zinedine Zidane in place of Keylor Navas against Celta Vigo in the French manager's first game in charge at the Bernabéu since Solari was sacked as the debate over who should start in goals heats up again. The Belgian says he does not doubt his ability though.

"I still consider myself one of the best in the world," he said. "Even though the Spanish press want to kill me. I feel strong, I'm calm, playing well and training well."
