Cristiano Ronaldo: Schick levels in Euro 2020 Golden Boot stakes

  /  autty

Patrik Schick's strike for the Czech Republic means Cristiano Ronaldo wil have to settle for a share of the Golden Boot at Euro 2020 as it stands.

Patrik Schick’s goal against Denmark wasn’t enough to prevent the Czech Republic from exiting Euro 2020 as the 1992 champions moved on to the semi-finals on Saturday but it was sufficient to ensure that the Leverkusen striker will share the Golden Boot with Cristiano Ronaldo as it stands. Schick and Juventus forward Ronaldo - who has become the all-time top scorer in European Championship history with 14 after this tournament – are both on five goals at Euro 2020 and can only currently be caught by a player representing either Denmark, Italy, England, Ukraine or Spain.

Two of the pre-tournament favourites for the Golden Boot, Karim Benzema and Romelu Lukaku, ended the tournament with four each alongside Sweden’s Emil Forsberg. With France, Portugal, Sweden and Belgium all out of the tournament, Ronaldo and Schick will have to wait to see if their tallies are enough to ensure they go down in Euros history.

Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane currently have three goals for England and Kasper Dolberg has the same number for Denmark while a raft of still-active players - Álvaro Morata, Pablo Sarabia, Ferrán Torres, Joakim Maehle, Youssuf Poulsen, Ciro Immobile, Matteo Pessina, Lorenzo Insigne, Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk - are on two going into the semi-finals.
