A crucial football game in Germany was abandoned after the referee had a beer thrown over him by a fan.
The incident occurred at half-time in the third division match between FSV Zwickau and Rot-Weiss Essen on Sunday as referee Nicolas Winter headed down the tunnel. Zwickau supporters had been left enraged by his decision to send off defender Nils Butzen and awarded Essen a penalty during the closing stages of the half.
Footage from the match showed the fan leaning over the side of the stand and throwing their drink in Winter's face as he walked down the tunnel.
The fan was immediately pointed out by a steward, who could be seen gesturing to their colleagues in a bid to apprehend the supporter.
Essen confirmed on Twitter that the match had been abandoned during the interval as a result of the incident, writing: "The game was cancelled due to a cup being thrown from the grandstand."

The match had been level at 1-1 at half-time, with Zwickau leading before Butzen was dismissed for a foul on Essen's Isaiah Young. The visitors were then awarded a penalty for handball from the resulting free-kick, with Simon Engelmann converting from 12 yards.
It is currently unclear what sanctions will be handed out, with the German FA yet to confirm any punishments or when the match will be replayed.
A spokesman for the Zwickau board condemned the fan's actions, though, telling MagentaSport, via Express.de: "It's terrible, it's horrible. Some things just don't work. That will have consequences. We must do our part to counteract this. We cannot use point deductions and sanctions in the financial area."
As a result of Sunday's abandoned fixture, Zwickau remain in the 3. Liga relegation zone, seven points from safety with six matches remaining. Meanwhile, Essen are 15th and five points clear of the relegation zone.
The unsavoury scenes in Germany came just a day after a match in the Netherlands was suspended in similar circumstances. An assistant referee was struck by a beaker of beer during the Eredivisie clash between Groningen and NEC Nijmegen on Saturday.
Relegation-threatened Groningen had been level at 0-0 with Nijmegen at the time of the incident, with the match now set to be replayed behind closed doors at a later date.
