The Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) have been defeated by the Lions of Teranga of Senegal by 2-3 on Tuesday at the Martyrs Stadium in Kinshasa, in a match on the 8th day of the African zone qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.  

In a Group B final played in an electric atmosphere, the Lions of Teranga from Senegal have imposed their game, while the Leopards of DRC have opened the scoring with a superb shot from Cedric Bakambu (26th minute)  from a decisive pass by Noah Sadiki, followed by a second goal from Yoane Wissa (33rd minute). However, the Lions of Teranga have reacted with determination, with Pape Alassane Gueye (39th minute) reducing the score to 2-1 at half-time. 

After the break, the Lions of Teranga from Senegal have kept up the same pace and managed to equalise with a goal from Nicolas Jackson (53rd minute). Senegal confident in its game plan, and Pape Matar Sarr (87th minute) has scored the winning goal. This victory puts Senegal at the top of Group B with 18 points, ahead of the DRC with 16 points, Sudan with 12 points, Togo with 7 points, Mauritania with 5 points and South Sudan with 3 points. DRC has showed great determination in the first half, but Senegal was able to capitalise on its opportunities in the second half to turn the game around.
