Damac 1-1 Al-Ittihad: Visitors' winning streak ends with frustrating draw

Al-Ittihad failed to make up ground on the top three in the Saudi Pro League after being held to a 1-1 draw by Damac on Tuesday.

Muhannad Al Shanqiti cancelled out Abdullah Al Qahtani's strike in the first half, but the visitors, who saw Fabinho sent off in second-half stoppage time, could not find a winner.

Al Shanqiti had the ball in the back of the net just three minutes in, drilling a composed finish into the bottom-right corner after Moussa Diaby's pullback, but the Frenchman had failed to keep it in play during the build-up.

It was not until the 37th minute that Al Qahtani found a breakthrough for Damac after playing a lovely one-two with Riyadh Sharahili and slotting under Predrag Rajkovic.

But Al Shanqiti restored parity eight minutes later, latching onto a poor block from Sharahili to fire into the top-left corner.

Al-Ittihad dominated the second half as they attempted to extend their five-game winning streak, with Fabinho, Danilo Pereira and Steven Bergwijn all firing off target.

Yahya Naji saw a chance smothered late on before Abdulrahman Al Obaid rattled the crossbar with a powerful driven shot from the edge of the box, before Fabinho received his second booking in the 98th minute to see Al-Ittihad end the game with 10 men.

Data Debrief: Conceicao's side blunted

After an impressive 4-0 win over Al-Kholood last time out, Al-Ittihad did not show the same attacking prowess at Prince Sultan bin Abdulazizi Sports City Stadium.

They racked up 17 shots in total, but their chances were worth just 1.03 expected goals (xG), and only three of those were on target.

By contrast, Damac may feel a little unfortunate not to come away with all three points despite having half the number of chances. They got four efforts on target, and racked up three 'big' chances.

The hosts remain winless in eight home matches (D4 L4), extending their longest such run in the competition.
