Legendary right-back Dani Alves has hit out at his own club on social media after Pumas claimed he suffered a bad knee injury.

The Brazilian defender, who joined the Mexican side in July after leaving Barcelona, picked up a knock during training this week which led to his absence from their matchday squad against Juarez.

Pumas then claimed that Alves was 'under evaluation by the club's medical team', to which the 39-year-old refuted and blasted back against online.

In a statement, Mexican side Pumas said: 'Dani Alves will not be (available) due to an injury to the medial collateral ligament of his right knee, which is still under evaluation by the club's medical team.'

In a swift manner, Alves tweeted:  'Go jinx someone else for God's sake! My friend Diogo hit me in training and as a precaution I did not travel.'

In a full response, according to Fellegger, he said: 'As we speak in Brazil, they are going to jinx another one. The person who wrote this was not aware of the real situation. In training, on the eve of the trip, my friend Diogo, who plays with me, ended up hitting me on the last move of training.

'As a precaution we decided not to travel to the last game. As we no longer have goals to fight in the competition in this last round. I want to inform everyone that thank the good God, everything is fine.'

Shortly afterwards, Pumas confirmed: 'To clarify the misunderstanding about the injury of our player Dani Alves, the national university club reports: The player received a blow to the knee at the end of training and as a precaution did not travel to face F.C Juarez. The injury requires basic treatment and rest.

'Due to a lack of communication and the team's trip to Ciudad Juarez, wrong information was published. For this mistake, we offer an apology to Dani Alves.'

The injury initially listed, a knock to the medial collateral ligament, would have potentially ruled the full-back out of a final World Cup appearance later this year.

Alves has made 12 appearances for Pumas and has already recorded four assists since joining the side earlier this summer.

Just last month, the right-back received an emotional farewell from players and supporters of Barcelona after the Catalan side faced Pumas in a pre-season friendly.

Prior to the match, Alves got a big cheer from fans as he came out to warm up. The Brazilian could not contain his emotions as he was brought to tears before hugging his old team-mates and president Joan Laporta.

He received a framed shirt with the number 431, representing the number of games he played for the club.
