David Luiz took part in his first Arsenal training session on Saturday as Unai Emery puts his players through their paces ahead of their Premier League curtain raiser against Newcastle.
The Brazilian joined the Gunners on deadline day in a £7million move from rivals Chelsea to bolster Emery's defence.
Luiz appears to have settled in quickly at his new club and was seen smiling as he was greeted by Reiss Nelson on the training pitch.
Arsenal's other deadline-day signing, Kieran Tierney, was not present for Saturday's session but did have a light session on the bikes away from the rest of the squad.
The Scotland international is currently recovering from a double hernia operation and is not expected to return to full training for four weeks.
Luiz, however, is available for selection straight away, having used pre-season with Chelsea to build up match sharpness.
Emery had been concerned about his side's defensive options ahead of the season and will most likely hand Luiz a debut against Newcastle on Sunday.
The onus will be on the 32-year-old to step into a significant role at The Emirates this season with Emery admitting he is open to selling fellow defender Shkodran Mustafi, who came under intense criticism for his performances last term.
The Arsenal boss said this week: 'I spoke with him when we finished last season, I spoke with him when we started pre-season and I spoke with him also two weeks ago saying maybe there was the possibility he can leave.
'We have a big responsibility, the players are the same, the club and me for the team [to perform],'
