Interim Spain head coach Fernando Hierro says he has no plans to make a change in goal ahead of La Roja's World Cup last-16 tie with hosts Russia.

Interim Spain coach Fernando Hierro has confirmed that goalkeeper David de Gea will start in Sunday's World Cup last-16 clash with tournament hosts Russia.

"De Gea will play", Hierro tells Spanish radio interview

De Gea has come under fire over his recent displays for Spain, particularly after his serious error led to Portugal's second goal in a 3-3 draw with the European champions in La Roja's opening World Cup game.

However, Hierro told the Radio Nacional de España programme 'Radiogaceta de los deportes' on Friday: "De Gea will play".

Hierro has maintained his support for the Manchester United keeper throughout the World Cup, declaring that "a change in goal hasn't crossed my mind" before Spain's 2-2 draw with Morocco in their final group-stage game on Monday.

"Costa has played all three games and scored three goals..."

Meanwhile, the Spain boss was also asked whether Diego Costa will continue to lead the forward line this weekend, and strongly indicated that the Atlético Madrid man would start in Moscow.

"Costa has played all three games from the start and has scored three goals," he said. "That should answer your question."
