Deeney responded to a viral clip from years ago in which he claimed he could do some things better than Kane. After Kane won the Golden Boot on Monday, the old video circulated widely on social media, once again making the Watford legend a hot topic.

What did Deeney say at the time?
He said: "Is Kane a better football player than Deeney? Of course he is. If I said no, I'd be naive. Is he a better finisher than me? Yes."
"Is he better in the air than me? No. Is his hold-up play and ball retention better than mine when he has two players on him? No. So, if it's the 85th minute, the team is winning, Kane is a bit tired, and someone needs to come on, he can't do what I can do. If I went to Tottenham, that would be my role. That's it, that's what I meant."
"And another thing, what I'm going to say—anyone who has played with me will say this. Can he honestly say every day that he works harder than Troy? If he can say he does, he'll be excellent. If he can't, I'm right there. Everyone knows one thing: I work harder than everyone."
Deeney responds to viral Kane clip
In the latest episode of the "Premier League All Access" podcast, Sam Matterface gave Deeney a chance to respond.
Deeney said: "As everyone knows, you say some things, and then they come back to haunt you."
"Actually, I think it highlights Kane's genius even more and shows that we should all give him more credit."
"The full clip was about me potentially going to Tottenham, and I knew Kane was much better than me, but I felt I had different attributes at the time."
"Someone at Leicester City would have felt this way. Someone at Leyton Orient would have felt this way, as would someone at Millwall."
"Even players Tottenham signed—I'm thinking of Soldado."
"He might have felt at the time that he deserved to play more than Kane, but I think it shows Kane's talent and hard work."
"People occasionally make poor judgments. But ultimately, my intention at the time wasn't to be a sideline cheerleader."
"However, I am a supporter of his now—he deserves all of this. It's what he's earned."
