According to Gianluca Di Marzio's official website, Empoli coach Paolo Zanetti has resigned. The decision was prompted by the team's inconsistent start to the Serie B season and their exit from the Coppa Italia.
Zanetti submitted his resignation, stepping down as Empoli coach after five rounds of the 2026/2027 Serie B season. The team earned six points in their first five league matches, currently placing them in the middle of the standings. Empoli's away performance has been particularly poor.
Last August, Empoli was eliminated in the preliminary round of the Coppa Italia in a derby against Pisa. The two teams drew 1-1 in regular time, with Empoli ultimately losing on penalties. Following Zanetti's departure, Empoli's management needs to quickly find a new coach. The team will play Palermo at home on October 10, and Matteo Andreoletti is one potential candidate who was considered by the club this summer.
