Diogo Jota had to be substituted at half time of Liverpool's 2-0 win away at Inter in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday night, and this Thursday he is undergoing tests to determine the extent of the injury.

The 25-year-old twisted his ankle during the first half of the match at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza and was replaced at the break by Roberto Firmino, who went on to score Liverpool's opening goal in the 75th minute. Mohamed Salah then scored the second eight minutes later.

"I am happy with everything apart from Diogo [Jota] going off [injured]," Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp said in his post-match press conference.

"[It's] a twisted ankle, it's swollen. That's not obviously a good sign, but we have to see.

"We will check it as early as possible on Thursday. We need further assessment."

Jota has been in excellent form so far this season, having scored 17 goals in 32 games in all competitions, and that has seen him displace Firmino from the line-up.

The last couple of seasons have seen Jota develop into more of a No.9 after previously playing the bulk of his career as a winger, and since arriving at Anfield he has been able to score an impressive 30 goals in 62 games, while he has provided just four assists. The numbers of a striker.

What games could Jota miss?

Liverpool have three games in the next 10 days, as they host both Norwich City and Leeds United in the Premier League before taking on Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on February 27.

Should Jota be unable to play in these matches, Firmino would likely come into the line-up to replace him. In terms of Klopp resting players, too, new signing Luis Diaz could get a chance to start in place of either Salah or Sadio Mane.
