Dortmund 5-0 Union: Ridiculous Haaland gets involved in 3 goals to send BVB 3rd

  /  R47

Borussia Dortmund kept their title hopes alive after beating Union Berlin as Haaland later netted his second to extend his superb scoring record in Germany.

Match Report

Dortmund remain three points adrift of the Bundesliga summit after two starlets helped fire the title hopefuls to an emphatic victory against Union.

Sancho netted Dortmund's opener on 13 minutes, after the England international combined with Guerreiro before ghosting inside and firing home a deflected strike.

And another wonderkid doubled the hosts' tally, with Haaland netting his sixth Bundesliga goal. The Norwegian starlet latched on to Julian Brandt's delivery inside the box and coolly converted beyond Gikiewicz.

The ever-dangerous Haaland then won the hosts a penalty after skipping around Gikiewicz and being brought down by the stopper. Marco Reus ensured a spot on the score sheet after converting the spot kick into the bottom right corner.

Witsel further bolstered Dortmund's tally for the afternoon, with the midfielder latching on to Sancho's pull-back inside the box and firing high into the roof of the net.

There was even time for Haaland to extend his formidable scoring record since moving to the Bundesliga, after the 19-year-old netted his seventh goal late on with only his eighth shot for Dortmund.

13' GOAL! Dortmund 1-0 Union Berlin (Sancho)

Sancho is wide on the left, cuts inside into the box onto his right foot and shoots at goal. It takes a deflection of Schlotterbeck's foot and loops past Gikiewicz and into the net.

17' CLOSE! Guerreiro's free-kick denied

Brandt instigates a counter-attack and feeds the ball to Hakimi, who's sprinting down the right. Guerreiro curls the set-piece towards the top corner but Gikiewicz dives to his left to make a brilliant save.

18' GOAL! Dortmund 2-0 Union Berlin (Haaland)

Union go to sleep somewhat after clearing a corner, but Dortmund recycle possession with Brandt down the right. He swings a cross into the middle and nobody's marking Haaland, who's left with a simple tap-in from close range.

31' CHANCE! Witsel's shot blocked

Brandt finds Witsel on the edge of the Union box. He does a stepover to fashion a yard of space and gets a left-footed shot away, but Trimmel's last-gasp lunge does enough to block it for a corner.

41' MISS! Schlotterbeck's shot wide out

68' Penalty Goal! Dortmund 3-0 Union Berlin (Reus)

Haaland is played into the box and Gikiewicz comes off his line to close him down. His foot appears to bring the striker down and a penalty is given.

Reus steps up to the spot and sends a powerful shot to Gikiewicz's right. The keeper dives the right way and almost gets a hand to it, but it's too strong for him to keep out.

70' GOAL! Dortmund 4-0 Union Berlin (Witsel)

Haaland feeds Sancho down the left and the winger sprints into the box before lifting his head and playing a brilliant pass behind two defenders and into the path of Witsel, who slams home from close range.

71' Reus out with frustration, Thorgan Hazard in

76' GOAL! Dortmund 5-0 Union Berlin (Haaland)

That's now seven in three games for Haaland - the first player in history to achieve such a feat. The move starts in Dortmund's own penalty area but they break forward quickly and it ends with Sancho playing the ball to Brandt, who's back-heel falls perfectly for Haaland, who drills a low shot under Gikiwiecz.
