Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus has been voted German Player Of The Year 2019 by Germany sports journalists and the kicker magazine.
The 30-year-old from runner-up Borussia Dortmund sat down in the "kicker" under sports journalists targeted election with 158 votes in front of Kai Havertz (121 votes) from Bayer Leverkusen and Bayern professional Joshua Kimmich (35).
For Reus it is the second award as Footballer of the Year after 2012.
"I value the award in recognition of my accomplishments over the past two years. It's hard to come back after a serious injury like my cruciate ligament rupture in 2017 and become a Footballer of the Year.
"That makes me proud in any case and shows that I have taken a good path after my injury ", Reus is quoted by the" kicker ".
Reus has been plagued with injuries in recent years, spending a total of almost 900 days on the sidelines with Pubitis and cruciate ligament problems proving particularly damaging.
Reus is the first Dortmunder since Jürgen Kohler 1997, which receives the award. In 2012 he was honored for his performance in the jersey of Borussia Mönchengladbach.
"Lucien Favre was the best coach I so far had in my career although Michael Frontzeck always backed me up when I first got to Moenchengladbach.
"It only starts now. At 23, I have not reached the end of my development. Experience is an important factor, which I will add over the next years."
