Dortmund director would bet JUST €100 on Haaland staying this summer

Borussia Dortmund fans may not feel too reassured by Sebastian Kehl's remarks over Erling Haaland's long-term future this week.

Dortmund's head of first-team football was grilled on whether star man Haaland, who has been courted by Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, would remain in Germany beyond the current 2021-22 season.

And Kehl tried to reassure supporters Haaland is going nowhere by announcing how much he'd bet on the Norway international staying - a paltry €100, which is far from an assuring figure considering the amount of cash swirling around in football.

'Of course, we are trying to give him the feeling that Borussia Dortmund continues to be a top address for him and that he can still develop here,' Kehl told Bild.

'Maybe we can still convince him. We will fight for him. We will try everything. The decision has not yet been made, but I would bet €100 [on him staying].'

The 21-year-old has a release clause in the region of £64m that kicks in next summer - a perfectly reasonable price for major clubs to pay for someone with the ability he has.

Haaland has been a Dortmund player since joining from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg in January 2020 but his relentless scoring form has seen him continuously linked with Europe's elite sides.

This season, he has fired in 18 goals in just 13 appearances for club and country but at present he is on the sidelines through a hip injury.

'It is too early to name an exact date (of when he will return) but we hope he can play again this year,' Dortmund's director of sport Michael Zorc said on Saturday.

He can't return soon enough for Dortmund, who are second in the Bundesliga standings and just a point behind leaders Bayern Munich.
