Dortmund expected to extend Schlotterbeck's contract but he halted progress

Borussia Dortmund had originally expected to complete the contract extension with Schlotterbeck before the end of the international break, but the player called off the negotiations.

Schlotterbeck is expected to receive a contract valid until 2031, with a pre-tax annual salary of up to €14m, which would make him one of the highest-paid players in the team. In addition, from 2027, his contract will include a release clause.

Borussia Dortmund internally hoped that he would sign the new contract after the international break/at the latest before the away game against Stuttgart on Saturday. However, Schlotterbeck has now poured cold water on these plans, which puts Borussia Dortmund's new sporting director, Book, and especially sporting manager Ricken, under pressure.

Schlotterbeck's contract expires in 2027. Management and Kovac have recently stated clearly several times that they want Schlotterbeck to make a decision as soon as possible in order to gain planning certainty and maintain calm. However, it seems that this wish cannot be fulfilled for the time being.
