The Holland fullback was linked with LaLiga and the Premier League after it emerged his contract carried an active short-term buyout clause of just €25m.
However, Dumfries ultimately stayed and told DAZN today: "It was always clear to me: I wanted to stay at Inter, and I know the club felt the same way. Many have talked about a transfer, but I never had any doubts. I'm very happy here and I want to stay in Milan."
On finished last season trophyless, he added: "It was difficult. We did everything we could to win as many titles as possible. We lost to PSG after a great run, but they were better that night. We're still proud of what we've achieved, and now we have to build on that."
Meanwhile, Dumfries also revealed Lautaro Martinez and Hakan Calhanoglu have fixed their differences after the blow-up during this summer's Club World Cup.
He said, "I was calm. I know they're both winners and competitive. They've cleared things up with each other and the team. We're staying united, like a family. At Inter, not winning titles isn't enough; we're working to raise the bar."
