Eric Bailly is set to turn down a reunion with Jose Mourinho in favour of a switch to Sevilla, it has been reported.

The defender, 28, has fallen out of favour at Manchester United and with the club having acquired Lisandro Martinez this summer he has seen his stock fall even further in the pecking order.

The Sun now report that the defender is in talks Sevilla with the Spanish club in talks over his signature having beaten off competition from Roma.

Mourinho, who brought Bailly to Old Trafford in 2016, might have hoped that would make Bailly moving to Roma more likely but he is said to favour a move to southern Spain.

Both Roma and AC Milan made enquiries for the defender last week.

With United having brought in a number of players under new manager Erik ten Hag this summer, the club are believed to be keen to now offload players.

With Bailly finding himself below Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Raphael Varane and, now, Martinez in the pecking order he is likely to be one of those that is allowed to depart this window.

Bailly, who has made 113 appearances for the club since his arrival in 2016, has seen his time at the club blighted by various injury troubles.

Since his debut season, the defender has not made more than 20 Premier League appearances in any of the following seasons.

His time at the club has coincided with drop in fortunes at United with the club keen to reverse their astonishing decline that has marked the post-Sir Alex Ferguson years.

Meanwhile, the issues surrounding the future of Cristiano Ronaldo continue to rumble on with the forward once again having told the club he wishes to depart in search of Champions League football this summer.

Ten Hag is said to be keen to keep the player with Ronaldo having played a part in the club's final pre-season friendly against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday.
