Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was reportedly the person to pull the plug on a move for Aston Villa goalkeeper Emi Martinez this summer.
At the end of last season, question marks remained over the goalkeeping situation as David de Gea's contract headed towards expiry. After weeks of negotiations, it was decided the Spaniard would move on from Old Trafford.
This left United with a hole to fill and according to The Independent, figures at the Theatre of Dreams wanted Martinez to be the next No.1. The former Arsenal man starred at the World Cup in Qatar a year ago as Argentina lifted the coveted prize.
However, these plans were vetoed by Ten Hag who wanted to reunite with his former Ajax shot stopped Andre Onana. The Cameroonian also enjoyed a good season last year as Inter reached the Champions League final.
Ten Hag's insistence of course won and Onana has since had a mixed start to his time in Manchester.
