Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has responded to Jadon Sancho's public statement amid talk of a shock Chelsea transfer
Erik ten Hag has doubled down on his Jadon Sancho admission despite the Manchester United star's shocking public response. The England international was left out of the matchday squad to face Arsenal in the Premier League at Emirates Stadium with ten Hag revealing after the 3-1 defeat it was due to his performances in training.
"Jadon [Sancho] - Performance in training so we didn’t select him," he told the media. "You have to reach a level everyday at Manchester United and we can make choices in a fortnight and yeah, so for this game he wasn't selected."
"I believe there are other reasons for this matter that I won't go into, I've been a scapegoat for a long time which isn't fair! All I want to do is play football with a smile on my face and contribute to my team. I respect all decisions that are made by the coaching staff, I play with fantastic players and grateful to do so which I know every week is a challenge. I will continue to fight for this badge no matter what!"
According to ESPN, the United boss is standing by his comments about Sancho Ten Hag was after being made aware of his response on the journey back to Manchester from London, but it was noted he declined to offer some a clarification to his initial comments.
The report also states he believes he was clear on his reasons for leaving Sancho out and is standing by the view that his training performances did not mean he deserved a place in the squad.
