Match Report

Manchester City moved back to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-0 victory over Everton at Goodison Park.

City were seven points behind Liverpool on January 19 but Wednesday's win sees them move level with Jurgen Klopp's Reds, the defending champions taking over at the summit on goal difference.

Aymeric Laporte's second league goal of the season put City ahead in the final moments of the first half, Everton giving the defender the freedom of the penalty area to head past Jordan Pickford.

The visitors wasted a number of chances to extend their lead before Gabriel Jesus wrapped things up in stoppage time, condemning struggling Everton to a seventh defeat in their last 10 league matches.

3' CLOSE! Sane's shot wide out

Everton crowd the area to get the delivery clear but when the ball is cleared out to the edge of the box, Sane is waiting for it unmarked and has time to bring it down and shoot. He arrows an effort just beyond the far post.

19' CHANCE! Gundogan's shot off the bar

Man City work the ball down the left where Sane feeds David Silva's overlapping run. He whips the ball in low and Gundogan, on the six-yard line, smacks the bar with Pickford well beaten.Everton's door is getting firmly knocked on by the visitors.

47' GOAL! Everton 0-1 Man City (Laporte)

What a time to score! David Silva takes the free-kick and there's so much spin and pace on it that Laporte just has to let it hit him and fly into the far corner.

Man City in front on the stroke of half-time, but Everton's set-piece woes continue.

58' CHANCE! Aguero's shot wide out

Gundogan delivers the ball into the box, but Pickford gets something on the ball to take it away from Bernardo Silva .Aguero attempts an acrobatic overhead kick with the goalkeeper in no-man's land, and drops inches wide of the near post.

97' GOAL! Everton 0-2 Man City (Jesus)

Man City are going back to the top of the Premier League! De Bruyne rolls the ball into Jesus who has timed his run perfectly to stay onside. Pickford dives at his feet and saves his initial shot, but it spins up and back into the Brazilian's path, and his looping header bounces over the line.
