England's top flight has the greatest strength in depth in the new game, but who are the best of the best?
#22 Bernardo Silva – Manchester City – RW – 87
The former Monaco man is now playing a starring role under Pep Guardiola at the Etihad Stadium and his excellence has been recognised in FIFA 20 as he makes the top 20 Premier League players. With a dribble rating of 92, he is the best in the league.
#21 Aymeric Laporte – Manchester City – CB – 87
He might face an extended period on the sidelines in real life, but he remains a stalwart in FIFA 20, with his defensive and physical ratings especially impressive. There are only three Premier League centre-backs who can out-rate the Frenchman.
#20 Fernandinho – Manchester City – CDM – 87
He might be 34 years old, but that does not mean that the Brazilian defensive midfielder is any less of a force. What he lacks in pace he makes up for in virtually every other aspect of his play, with his game based around a balance between technical assurance and imposing physicality.
#19 Toby Alderweireld – Tottenham – CB – 87
A key man as Tottenham made a run for the Champions League last season, the Belgian’s 88 is outranked in the defence statistic by only one Premier League star. An absolute rock who would grace the heart of any defensive line.
#18 Jan Vertonghen – Tottenham – CB – 87
Alderweireld’s team-mate at Tottenham may be struggling to win over Mauricio Pochettino in real life, but in FIFA 20 he remains one of the best centre-backs in the work. He almost matches Alderweireld defensively and boasts more technical qualities, stronger in both passing and dribbling.
#17 Son Heung-Min – Tottenham – CF – 87
The third Tottenham player to make the list, the South Korean has established himself as a quietly deadly goalscorer. In FIFA 20, he rates very highly for pace, shooting, passing and dribbling, making him a dangerous all-round offensive machine.
#16 Ederson – Manchester City – GK – 88
The Brazil international goalkeeper has revolutionised Manchester City since moving to England last summer, with his technical assurance second to none in the world game for his position. Of course, he’s strong with the basics of goalkeeping, too, and is an imposing figure to beat.
#15 Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – Arsenal – ST – 88
With a blistering pace rating of 94, there isn’t a player on this list who is quicker than the Arsenal forward, whose shooting rating of 85 makes him an ideal pick up for FIFA players who are less refined in the finer arts of the game. Sure to be a popular pick on FIFA Ultimate Team.
#14 David Silva – Manchester City – CAM – 88
One of the fulcrums of Manchester City’s brilliant unit, the Spaniard is, as one would expect of a Pep Guardiola player, exceptional technically, despite not necessarily being the fastest. He has a pass rating of 88 and boasts 89 for dribbling.
#13 Christian Eriksen – Tottenham – CAM – 88
Might have fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane to an extent after pushing for a summer transfer, but the Dane is one of FIFA 20’s leading passers, with a rating of 90 in that category. He may not be up to much defensively or physically, but he can retain possession thanks to a strong dribbling statistic and boasts excellent shooting.
#12 Paul Pogba – Manchester United – CM – 88
Perhaps the most enigmatic player in the Premier League finds himself with an overall score of 88 in FIFA 20. A strong all-round player, his biggest strength is his physicality, which allows him to bully opposing players. His passing, shooting and dribbling is also impressive.
#11 Raheem Sterling – Manchester City – RW – 88
Touted by Xavi as a player who might pick up the baton when Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi retire, the Manchester City winger has become altogether more effective over the course of the last year and that is reflected in his ratings. Lightning pace and excellent dribbling is matched with improved shooting and passing.
#10 Sadio Mane – Liverpool – LW – 88
Part of the brilliant Liverpool front three that fired the Anfield club to Champions League success last season, Mane is the joint fasted player in this list, with a pace rating of 94. But he is not simply a speedster: he can dribble, shoot and his passing’s not bad either.
#9 Hugo Lloris – Tottenham – GK – 88
The World Cup-winning goalkeeper might not have been quite at his consistent best of late, but that does not stop him from being one of the top custodians of FIFA 20. There is only one keeper in England’s top flight who can better his reflexes in the game. He rates 91 in that regard, though his kicking rather lets him down.
#8 David de Gea – Manchester United – GK – 89
Another shot-stopper who has not been at their absolute peak but who continues to rate highly in FIFA 20, De Gea, with 92, is the best reflex goalkeeper in England. Indeed, he rates highly overall, with his speed, rated at 58, his only weak link.
#7 Sergio Aguero – Manchester City – ST – 89
For years recognised as one of the deadliest finishers in world football, it is little surprise to see ‘El Kun’ among the top Premier League players in FIFA 20. With shooting at 90, dribbling at 88 and pace of 80, he will be a formidable man to stop in the game.
#6 Harry Kane – Tottenham – ST – 89
Need a Premier League centre-forward to finish chances? Harry Kane’s your man in FIFA 20. The Tottenham striker has a shooting rating of 91, which exceeds anyone else in England’s top flight. Given his prolific record in recent seasons, it is a well-deserved statistic for a man who also rates well physically.
#5 Alisson – Liverpool – GK – 89
Along with De Gea, the Champions League winner is rated as the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. While he lacks in speed, rated at just 47, he makes up for it in every other category on the main card. In these, he rates at least in the mid-80s.
#4 N’Golo Kante – Chelsea – CDM – 89
The man who made an unfashionable defensive midfield position fashionable, Kante’s greatest strength is, of course, his boundless energy. But he’s also impressive when it comes to defensive quality and physicality on FIFA 20, while improvements in the technical side of his game have also been recognised.
#3 Mohamed Salah – Liverpool – RW – 90
A revelation since joining Liverpool, Mohamed Salah is the joint second-strongest Premier League player in FIFA 20. Everyone knows about his strengths, of course, with his searing pace matched by his technical excellence and a keen eye for goal.
#2 Virgil van Dijk – Liverpool – CB – 90
Many felt that Van Dijk was robbed of FIFA’s The Best Male Footballer trophy, and he finishes as runner-up in FIFA 20’s list of Premier League stars. Nevertheless, with a defensive rating of 90 and physicality of 86, he will be a player prized in FUT.
#1 Kevin De Bruyne – Manchester City – CAM – 91
On early season form, is there a better player in world football right now than Kevin De Bruyne? There certainly isn’t in FIFA 20. It’s his passing statistic of 92 that really makes him stand out from the crowd, and given that he can do just about anything, he would be a worthy addition to any squad.
