Fans blast move to banish Gallagher as stats show he is better than his rivals

CHELSEA fans have slammed the decision to ban Conor Gallagher from the first-team.

The 24-year-old was told in a meeting yesterday that he will not be allowed to train with his team-mates when he returns to Cobham on Monday.

Gallagher, who has been at the club since he was aged eight, turned down a new three-year contract.

He wants to stay at Stamford Bridge but is unhappy about only being offered a shorter deal compared to the seven and eight-year offers handed to team-mates.

Chelsea have since been looking to sell him, with new manager Enzo Maresca telling him he won't start as he does not suit his possession style of play.

The Blues accepted a £57million bid from Aston Villa in June, only for the midfielder to reject the move.

Chelsea have now agreed a £33million deal with Atletico Madrid for Gallagher.

And the Spanish club are giving him until this weekend to decide whether he wants to join.

Should he choose Atletico, Chelsea will lose a player who captained them on several occasions last season.

The stats show the England star was more integral to the team than £100m+ pair Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.

Gallagher got more goals and assists than them both and won more tackles per 90.

He also made more interceptions and created more chances than his midfield rivals.

Meanwhile, Chelsea fans are unhappy with the treatment of Gallagher and have slammed the club.

One said: "Whether you rate him or not the reports of him being exiled are embarrassing. Our academy products should be treated with more respect."

Another added: "What a disgrace."

A third reacted: "Absolutely insane, what a joke of a club."

Gallagher will train with fellow exiled academy graduate Trevoh Chalobah away from Maresca's team as the Blues also try to offload him.
