Cristiano Ronaldo was reportedly close to joining Manchester City in the summer, but the Portugal forward finally move to his former club Manchester United from Juventus and his ex-international teammate Luis Figo stressed that his compatriot made the right decision.

Figo, who departed Barcelona to join fierce rivals Real Madrid in the past, indicated that a potential Ronaldo move to the Sky Blues would frustrate the team's fans.

"Personally, I think that Manchester United is the best choice for Cristiano because it's a place that he knows," Figo told GiveMeSport.

"He has [made] history at the club, the fans love him and I think it's the best place to be in the last part of your career.

"If you go to a competitor club, I think there will be more problems in terms of the concerns of the fans. So, I think it is the best choice [in order] to have fewer problems and continue [making] history for the club."

Ronaldo has hit the ground running in his second spell at Manchester United as he has already netted four times in three games across all competitions.
