2025/2026 Coppa Italia
1-3
Match Report:
The Viola were fresh from a surprising 2-1 home defeat to Cagliari, their first Serie A loss of 2026. Moise Kean, Fabiano Parisi and Tariq Lamptey were injured, but new buys Giovanni Fabbian, Jack Harrison and Marco Brescianini got their first starts. Cesc Fabregas also rotated after a 6-0 thrashing of Torino.
New President Giuseppe Commisso was in the stands, along with his mother Catherine, the widow of former President Rocco.
Fiorentina started off brightly despite the bonkers lineup, pushing high and leaving Como disjointed. It got even better when Roberto Piccoli got body-snatched by a €25 million striker and brilliantly finished Fabbian’s teasing cross. The Viola didn’t immediately let off and even created a couple of decent opportunities on the break before their old nemesis reared its head.
Jacopo Fazzini tested Butez from distance, but Como equalised in chaotic circumstances. The Tasos Douvikas header on a corner bounced off the upright, Diego Carlos was dragged back by Luca Ranieri to prevent him nodding in the rebound, but it fell into the path of Sergi Roberto to score from point-blank range.
Douvikas hobbled off after 29 minutes with a right ankle problem, so the rare Nico Paz rest did not last long.
Brescianini ran onto a long ball, but took too long to get the shot away and was blocked off in the box, while Maxence Caqueret stung Oliver Christensen’s gloves with a ferocious strike.
Como turned the tie around completely when Ivan Smolcic’s cross from the right was clumsily cleared to the edge of the area by Niccolò Fortini, so Nico Paz drilled in past a rusty Christensen.
The goalkeeper did manage to parry Kuhn’s shot on the counter moments later, while Butez rushed out to deny Piccoli at the other end, but the striker pulled up clutching his adductor and had to limp off.
Alvaro Morata and Jayden Addai on their comebacks both tested Christensen, as Como confirmed their dominance by adding a third in stoppages. Kuhn shrugged off crap to sprint down the left from his own half and roll across for Morata to tap in undisturbed from eight yards. It was his first goal since May 2025 for Galatasaray and the veteran seemed genuinely emotional.
