Marc-Andre ter Stegen has emerged as the latest superstar name linked with a big move to Newcastle United.

The Barcelona goalkeeper is reportedly being eyed up by the Magpies as the newly minted club plot a huge spending spree to kick-star the new era under Saudi Arabian ownership.

According to recent reports in El Nacional, Newcastle are putting together a bid in the region of £47m to tempt cash-strapped Barca into parting with their first choice stopper.

The Magpies face a task on their hands however, with ter Stegen having spoke on many occasions previously of his happiness in Catalonia and his hope of retiring at the Nou Camp.

The upcoming January transfer window looks set to see plenty of communication between Newcastle and Spanish giants Barca, given the club's reported interest in another of their star names.

The North East club are looking into the logistics of bringing in playmaker Philippe Coutinho on loan and offering the former Liverpool star another shot at Premier League football.

Coutinho has endured a miserable time in Spain following his huge £145m switch from Liverpool in January 2019.
