Former Arsenal and West Ham defender Carl Jenkinson has signed for Australian side Melbourne City on a six-month loan deal, after falling out of favour at Championship side Nottingham Forest.
The 29-year-old right-back will now look to help City defend their A-League title after his shock transfer.
Jenkinson spent eight years on the books at Arsenal between 2011-2019 and was at times a regular in the squad, picking up a cap for England in 2012 during a friendly against Sweden.
Jenkinson started his professional career at Charlton before joining Arsenal for £1million where he made 42 Premier League appearances and a further 29 across the League Cup, FA Cup and Champions League.
He then joined West Ham on loan where he featured 59 times in all competitions over two seasons before joining Forest in August 2019.
He has only played 15 times for the Reds, and has failed to make an appearance this season after being told he could leave last summer.
Melbourne City FC director of football Michael Petrillo said: 'Carl is a player with experience at the highest level that will add to the quality of our squad. We're pleased to have attracted a player of his caliber to the club.
'His versatility provides us with a number of options as he can play at right back, as a central defender and in a defensive midfield position.
'We are confident Carl will suit our attacking style of play and help us to achieve our goals on the pitch.'
Jenkinson said: 'I'm excited to be joining a club that are the current Champions of Australia.
'I've heard a lot of good things about both Melbourne as a beautiful city, the professionalism of the club and the quality of the league.
'I'm looking forward to meeting Patrick (Kisnorbo, the manger) and all of the boys in person, learning the team's style of play and meeting the fans. I can't wait to get involved.'
Jenkinson will be hoping to impress at Melbourne, who is wholly owned by the City Football Group, with his contract at Forest due to expire in the summer.
