After months of speculation and debate, the winner of the 2026 Ballon d'Or will finally be announced on Monday night. However, unlike previous years, the awards ceremony will not be held in Paris but will instead move to London. The organizers have provided an explanation for this change.

Does this signify anything? After Dembélé lifted the 2025 Ballon d'Or in Paris, will an Englishman be crowned at Monday night's ceremony in London? However, for one of this year's favorites, Kane, the highly anticipated ceremony's move across the English Channel is irrelevant.
After six years at the Théâtre du Châtelet in the heart of Paris, the 2026 Ballon d'Or awards ceremony will now take place at the London Palladium in the heart of Soho. The organizer, France Football, has given two clear reasons.
The primary and most emphasized reason is an anniversary. In 2026, the Ballon d'Or will celebrate the 70th anniversary of Sir Stanley Matthews becoming its first recipient. The Englishman, then playing for Blackpool, won this individual award recognizing the best European player of the year at the age of 41, and he remains the oldest recipient in history.
France Football also cited the "international nature" of the event as another reason for changing the host city. France Football magazine wrote: "This is a temporary choice, adapted to the circumstances, but the international nature presented by this prestigious award also gives reason to believe that this experiment might be repeated outside of France in the coming years."
It is worth noting that the awards ceremony, then co-organized with FIFA, was held in Zurich, Switzerland, between 2010 and 2015, when France Football had a partnership with FIFA.
