France boss Deschamp’s brilliant response when Kante turned up late

N'Golo Kante avoided punishment for turning up late to international duty when Didier Deschamps provided the perfect response.

A train delayed caused Kante to arrive almost 45 minutes late to France's training base, but when he told Deschamps, the national coach responded: 'But N'Golo, you are faster than the train.'

The Chelsea midfielder played in both the UEFA Nations League defeat to Holland and the 1-0 friendly victory over Uruguay.

The loss to a reinvigorated Dutch side means France will not feature in next summer's Nations League semi-finals.

This is not the first time Kante's coaches have made light of his high-energy on-field style.

During Leicester's title-winning season in 2016, coach Steve Walsh joked that: 'We play three in midfield - Danny Drinkwater in the middle and Kante either side.'

Kante recently penned a new £290,000-a-week, five-year contract to remain at Stamford Bridge, another step on his astronomical rise.

The 27-year-old was plucked from relative obscurity at Caen in 2015 and helped them to a premier League title before moving to Chelsea a year later and repeating the feat.

he has also won 36 caps for France and was an instrumental part of the side that won the World Cup this summer.
