Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta could make his first start for France in their FIFA World Cup qualifier against Iceland on Monday night.
France are contending with the absence of Kylian Mbappé, who sustained an ankle injury during the 3-0 win over Azerbaijan on Friday. Whilst it is not a serious injury, it does nonetheless mean that he misses the visit to Iceland.
Les Bleus will also be without centre-back Ibrahima Konaté, meaning that the centre-back pairing of Dayot Upamecano and William Saliba will be kept intact.
Florian Thauvin, after coming off the bench to score against Azerbaijan, could start. Former Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku may also find a place in the starting XI, but AS Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche may have to settle for a place on the bench this evening.
