French legend Leboeuf opposes World Cup expansion: "The real World Cup starts now"

Football fans have mixed opinions on the expansion of the FIFA World Cup, as do former football legends. French legend Fabrice Leboeuf is clearly among those opposed to it.

During an ESPN show, Leboeuf was asked whether he agreed with Mourinho's view, as Mourinho had explicitly opposed the decision to expand the FIFA World Cup. Leboeuf said: "I agree. I said this before the World Cup. In the opening match, Germany played Curaçao and won 7-1. I thought we would see results like that every day, but we didn't."

"I can accept a 48-team World Cup format, but I still believe the World Cup should be a stage for the best teams. So far, I have not been convinced by the expansion. What I want to say now is that the real World Cup begins now—when 32 teams enter the knockout stage. This is the true World Cup."
