French media: Verbal agreement very close between Upamecano and Real Madrid

In search of defensive reinforcement, Real Madrid is moving its pieces for the Frenchman Dayot Upamecano. The Ibrahima Konaté option, for its part, is not ruled out but is no longer a priority at present.

Liverpool and Real Madrid simply cannot seem to part ways. This Tuesday evening, the two European football giants faced off in the Champions League championship phase. A battle in which the Reds logically emerged victorious (1-0) thanks to a solid performance from Ibrahima Konaté. A performance that surely did not escape the Madrid management, which was in the front row to see the French international gain the upper hand over the timid attacks of the Merengue armada, much more hesitant than usual. And it's an understatement to say that the Madrid management was impressed.

For them, clearly a big fan of the Reds' defenders, has been seriously exploring the possibility of signing Ibrahima Konaté for several weeks now. The inmates of the Santiago-Bernabéu Stadium wish to strengthen their defense and anticipate the departures of David Alaba and Antonio Rüdiger, both of whom are out of contract in June 2026. The Casa Blanca, which wants to get its hands on an experienced defender who is neither too old nor too young, has therefore set its sights on Konaté. The latter has the advantage of being free next June and thus available for free. Last June, we also revealed on our website that the Frenchman is ready to leave the Reds.

We also explained to you that 3 clubs were involved, namely PSG, Barcelona, and Real Madrid. Subsequently, we informed you that Liverpool made a new contract extension offer to "Ibou". Long considered the priority of the Madridistas, Ibrahima Konaté (26 years old), who according to our information would like to join the Spanish capital, is no longer so currently. Indeed, the defender, who is being courted by PSG and still has a contract extension offer from the Reds in hand, is no longer the top player on the list drawn up by Real Madrid's recruiters. It is now Dayot Upamecano (27 years old) who is currently the top priority for the Merengues. And Florentino Perez didn't wait for the XXL encounter of the former Valencian against PSG to be convinced of this.

Set to end his contract at Bayern Munich in June, the French defender already has a verbal agreement with Real Madrid according to our exclusive information. His profile, experience, and the fact that he will be a free agent at the end of the season make him the perfect player in the eyes of the club's management. He also has the advantage of knowing several French players at the White House well. Xabi Alonso, who crossed paths with him in the Bundesliga, also knows him. Upamecano, whom PSG is also closely monitoring, also has an offer of contract extension from Bayern Munich, with whom no agreement has yet been reached. It remains to be seen whether this obstacle can be overcome or if Real Madrid will succeed in diverting him from his path, as in football, everything moves very quickly, as the saying goes.
