Gabriel goal highlights huge success of Arsenal off-field summer addition

Leicester vs Arsenal

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off would see Arsenal and Leicester face off at the King Power.

The Gunners headed into the game looking to extend their six-game unbeaten run in the Premier League.

However, Leicester were, after a slow start, beginning to find their feet this season and were expected to be one of Arsenal’s toughest tests since their upturn in form.

Mikel Arteta would opt for the same starting line-up that beat Aston Villa last weekend, with Kieran Tierney the north Londoners’ only major absentee.

And it would be Arsenal who took the lead after just four minutes when Gabriel headed in a corner from Bukayo Saka.

Arsenal make smart off-field addition

Following Arsenal’s opener on Saturday, an interesting stat has come to light.

Gabriel’s strike of course came from a corner, which means that Arsenal have now scored six goals from set-pieces in the Premier League this season, more than any other team at the time of writing:

Arsenal becoming a serious threat from set-pieces does not look to have happened by accident, either, with an off-field summer addition on the part of Arsenal seemingly proving a very, very smart bit of business.

Nicolas Jover would be signed by Arsenal in June after his contract expired with champions, Manchester City.

As reported elsewhere, Jover was acquired as a set-piece specialist by Arsenal, having held a similar post with Man City.

And, as shown by the stat above, Jover’s addition is clearly paying off so far.
