Arsenal fans' stream of pleading on social media intriguingly helped Gabriel Magalhaes reach a decision over his future, according to reports.

The Brazilian centre back is on the brink of sealing a £27million move to Arsenal from French side Lille as Mikel Arteta continues planning for the future at the Emirates.

And according to the Telegraph, Arteta has Arsenal fans to thank somewhat for getting the deal over the line amid heavy interest elsewhere.

The report claims that the illustrious history of the north London side appealed to Gabriel but in an intriguing twist, it is believed that the 22-year-old was also convinced into joining by the club's fans.

With teams vying for his signature, including Manchester United and Napoli too, he had been bombarded by messages from Arsenal fans on social media urging him to join the club - which reportedly helped him come to his decision with him feeling wanted.

After winning the race for his signature, the Brazilian's agent recently revealed that he turned down 'more lucrative offers' from elsewhere in order to join up with the Gunners.

Journalist Freddie Paxton posted quotes from Miranda on Twitter which read: 'Arsenal was nowhere near the best proposal [money wise].

'Gabriel chose them over more lucrative offers because Edu convinced us of the project. It's 100% because of Edu Gaspar and Arteta.'

His imminent arrival has been met by plenty of excitement from Arsenal fans as they look set to wrap up another exciting centre back for the future.

Gabriel will join William Saliba at the Emirates and there are high hopes that the duo can lead Arsenal's backline in the future.
