Gareth Bale has insisted that he will not be short of options when it comes to choosing his next club after guiding Wales to their first World Cup since 1958.
It all came down to one match on Sunday as Wales faced Ukraine in Cardiff for a place at the World Cup, and Bale stepped up in the crucial moment once again. His teasing free-kick was headed into his own net by Andriy Yarmolenko, and this goal proved to be the winner as Wales booked their spot in Qatar.
Bale's future had been in doubt prior to the match after he announced that he will be leaving Real Madrid after nine years at the club when his contract expires later this month, but having qualified for the World Cup, he has confirmed that he won't be walking away from the game just yet.
When asked about offers on the table for his services ahead of next season, Bale responded: 'I've got loads!'
Bale hardly played last season, making just seven appearances for Real Madrid as he fell out of favour under Carlo Ancelotti.
He did well to make it through to the latter stages of Sunday's match before he was replaced by Harry Wilson.
The 32-year-old admitted he was glad to make a positive contribution after a lack of game time in recent months, as he hailed Wales's historic achievement.
'It’s the greatest result in the history of Welsh football. We are all so ecstatic, and we’re going to a World Cup!' Bale told Sky Sports.
'It’s what dreams are made of. It’s what we’ve been working for since we first came together. I’m speechless because we’re so happy. We did it for all our amazing fans and our country. Words can’t describe how we’re feeling at the moment.
'I haven’t done much over the last four weeks because of my back spasm, which everyone knows about, so just happy to get through the game, contribute in whatever way I could. The most important thing was to get through this and to get through to the World Cup.'
With the World Cup still over five months away, Bale is likely to want to be playing regularly in the opening months of next term to build up his match sharpness.
However, his next destination remains a mystery. The winger spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Tottenham, scoring 16 goals in his second spell at the club, and a return to the Premier League cannot be ruled out.
Meanwhile, a move to America could be on the cards, with DC United showing an interest in signing him.
A shock short-term switch to Championship club Cardiff City has also been mooted. Bale was born and raised in the Welsh capital, and the chance to play for his hometown club could appeal to him.
Actor Rob McElhenney seems to think that the five-time Champions League winner should try his luck at another Welsh team, though.
McElhenney co-owns Wrexham alongside fellow actor Ryan Reynolds. The club currently play in the National League, and narrowly missed out on promotion after losing in the play-offs to Grimsby Town last month.
McElhenney wasted little time in trying to entice Bale to Wrexham after Wales's victory, tweeting: 'I’ve got a few ideas,' as he joked about making an offer to sign the 103-cap international.
