Gary Neville expressed surprise that Carrick had not been sacked, but said he was pleased for him, noting that Sunday's match situation was extremely difficult.
Gary Neville commented on Manchester United's decision to retain Michael Carrick:
"I'm surprised, but I'm also pleased for him. I was convinced that after Sunday's game, Michael's coaching career would be over.
Towards the end of the match, he was walking alone on the sidelines, with the players following behind him. It looked like a farewell tour.
He waved to the fans, almost apologetically, as if saying his final goodbyes. I'm surprised to see him still in his job, but I'm also relieved for him. Sunday's situation was incredibly difficult for him.
I don't know what will happen in the coming weeks. I hope he can motivate the players to give everything for him, but over the past few weeks, the players haven't been performing for him."
