German Media: Neuer to adapt to new center-back pairing, 90% chance to remain starting goalkeeper

With the German national team already qualified as group leaders, the German newspaper "Die Welt" has analyzed potential rotations ahead of the final group-stage match.

Undav's Starting Chances: 100%

Undav will start. He has been Germany's standout World Cup performer, contributing three goals and two assists in two substitute appearances. Against Côte d'Ivoire, he came on as a number 10 and scored both goals in a 2-1 victory. Since Undav replaced Musiala in the 60th minute, Musiala is likely to be rested for load management.

Goretzka's Starting Chances: 60%

Though long considered for a World Cup starting role, Goretzka was edged out by Felix Nmecha before the tournament, and Nmecha has since proven himself. However, the Dortmund midfielder has dealt with injury concerns and could be rotated for protection.

Raum's Starting Chances: 50%

Raum was a key player during qualifying but has lost his position to rising prospect Bryan. He remains in contention for a starting opportunity.

Woltemade's Starting Chances: 50%

Nick Woltemade has yet to feature despite being the top qualifier with four goals. One scenario: Woltemade starts upfront with Undav behind him, replacing Kai Havertz. He will almost certainly see his first World Cup minutes, at minimum off the bench.

Leweling's Starting Chances: 35%

Leweling came on for Sané against Côte d'Ivoire and is in contention. However, Nagelsmann has defended Sané against criticism, praising the winger's pace. The Ecuador match offers an opportunity for Sané to build confidence without pressure.

Amiri's Starting Chances: 20%

Though Amiri made an impact as a substitute with the cross leading to the 1-1 equalizer against Côte d'Ivoire, Nagelsmann will likely avoid wholesale midfield changes.

Baumann's Starting Chances: 10%

Oliver Baumann has become second-choice goalkeeper with Neuer's return. While Nagelsmann could theoretically rest Neuer for this inconsequential Ecuador match to reward Hoffenheim's strong performance during the captain's absence, Neuer must adapt to the new center-back pairing of Tah and Rüdiger following Schlotterbeck's injury. Neuer also needs match rhythm, making his appearance likely.
